Days ago people were complaining about the rainy and chilly weather. But on Tuesday, many were moaning about the sticky conditions.
Toronto Public Health issued its first heat alert of the year and Environment Canada issued a humidex advisory for a large swath of Southern Ontario, from Windsor and Sarnia up to Muskoka and Grey-Bruce.
The temperature is expected to reach a high of 32 degrees Celsius but with the humidity that’s going to feel more than 40C.

On the humidex scale, 30 means “some discomfort,” 40 results in “great discomfort” and above 45 is “dangerous”.
With such hot conditions Toronto Public Health is urging people to check in on elderly neighbours and relatives who are more at-risk of heat-related illness. And bad air often accompanies hot weather. People with heart and lung conditions are being urged to check air quality index levels. You can do that here.
The OPP also cautioned that children and pets should not be left alone in parked cars. The inside of a vehicle can get very hot, very quickly – and in some cases, this could lead to criminal negligence or animal cruelty charges being laid upon the driver or owner of the vehicle.
Anyone who needs help during a heat alert can call the Canadian Red Cross Heat Information Line at (416) 480-2615 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Aside from a fan, sunscreen will also be needed Tuesday — the UV index will reach a high of 9.
Luckily, the uncomfortable conditions will only last Tuesday. A cold front is forecast to move in overnight, bringing in winds that will lower the temperature down to a more seasonal high of 24C for Wednesday.
