Third man arrested in 2014 murder of Pickering woman

Durham police have arrested a third man in connection with the 2014 murder of a Pickering woman.

Matthew Knight, 36, is the brother of one the men already charged. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest in March of this year. He was found in Florida, arrested by local authorities, and deported to Canada. He was arrested at Pearson International Airport on Tuesday night.

Carmela Knight, 39, was found dead on Pebblestone Crescent, near Finch Avenue and Dixie Road, on Sept. 15, 2014. The house had an attached two-car garage and when emergency crews arrived, the garage was in flames.

After the fire was put out, Carmela’s body was found inside.

Police said her body showed obvious signs of trauma, but have not said how she died.

Carmela had two young sons.

Her husband David Knight was arrested alongside Graham MacDonald in February of this year. Both are charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and arson.

Matthew Knight, who is David’s brother, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and accessory after the fact to murder.
