It’s musical chairs in the gaming industry as Microsoft Xbox frontman Peter Moore steps down on Wednesday to take over Electronic Arts‘ sports division. Canadian-born Don Mattrick, a former EA president and Microsoft advisor, will become the new interactive entertainment head.
Moore took over Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division in 2003, putting him at the forefront of a multi-million dollar giant that saw him in charge of both Xbox and Windows gaming platforms. Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment section and Moore ‘s former boss, had nothing but good things to say about him.
“Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go,” says Bach. “Since that time, he presided over the global launch of the Xbox 360, spearheaded a revitalized and re-branded games for Windows business, and helped steer the console’s ascent.”
A terms of offer letter filed with the US government shows Moore took an offer of $1.5 million just to sign with EA, with a $550,000 a year salary. They are also paying $330,000 to relocate him to their San Francisco offices.
