Aston Villa Double Up Toronto FC

Aston Villa defeated Toronto FC 4-2, but lost their goaltender to injury in a soccer ‘friendly’ on Wednesday night at BMO Field.

Thomas Sorensen limped off in the field in the 34th minute, favouring his right leg.

A pair of trainers carried him inside to the dressing room.

“He’s pulled his hamstring, which is a bit of a blow,” manager Martin O’Neill said. “We won’t know the extent of the damage probably until some time later tomorrow (Thursday). But it’s pretty awkward for him.”

Despite the injury, O’Neill was pleased with how his team performed.

“It was an excellent game for us, a really good workout,” he said. “Toronto played very, very strongly in the second half, which was great for them, great for the fans and obviously very good for us.”

Luke Moore scored three goals for Villa and had seven of the team’s 16 shots. John Carew scored the other Villa goal.

Todd Dunivant and Andrea Lombardo scored for Toronto.
