Police are investigating several incidents of apparent election-related vandalism that happened in midtown over the weekend.
Tires were slashed and political signs were also vandalized on Saturday night and Sunday morning on several streets in the Mount Pleasant and Eglinton and Yonge and Eglinton areas, including on Hillsdale Avenue, Belsize Drive, Anderson Avenue and Eastbourne Avenue.
“It’s more for me, the fact that it’s a political crime. It’s based on politics, and I just thought out country was better than that,” said Jane Moore, whose tires were slashed.
This section of midtown is part of the provincial riding of St. Paul’s, which was held by Liberal Eric Hoskins before the election was called.
“It’s a sad thing that somebody feels this is an appropriate way to express a political feeling,” said victim Nancy Sutherland.
Police confirm the brake lines were cut on a car in the Midland and Eglinton area.
The homes targeted by vandals over the weekend had Liberal election signs. There’s no word on suspects.
Voters head to the polls on Thursday.
Vandals slashed tires of vehicles parked at homes with Liberal election signs in the same area during the federal election campaign last spring. More than a dozen incidents happened on Soudan and Hoyle avenues, near Bayview and Eglinton last April.
Homes with Liberal election signs were also targeted over the weekend in Barrie where as many as 20 homes were vandalized. Homes were spray-painted and vehicles were scratched and damaged. Damage is estimated at about $20,000.
There have been no arrests in those cases.
