York regional police have charged four teens and a man in connection with a brawl involving a parent that broke out near an Aurora high school earlier this month.
The fight took place at Briar Nine Park in Oak Ridges, near Cardinal Carter Catholic High School, around 3 p.m. on Dec. 2, and was captured on video. The videos were first shown in a CityNews exclusive on Dec. 5.
Police believe a student from Cardinal Carter and a student from St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School in Richmond Hill were involved in the fight.
Police said the father of one of the students in the fight got involved in the brawl. The father allegedly got into an argument with another student, which escalated to that student being assaulted.
A group of male teens then assaulted the father causing serious injuries.
“When adults attend something like this, they’re there to help break up the fight, which is what I think everyone would expect of an adult parent … not to get involved in the fight,” Const. Andy Pattenden told 680 NEWS on Tuesday.
Four male teens from Richmond Hill – a 15-year-old, two 16-year-olds, and an 18-year-old – have been charged with assault causing bodily harm. They cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
A 52-year-old man from King has been charged with assault.
Police are continuing to appeal to anyone that witnessed the fight, or anyone who has information on what took place leading up to the fight, to contact them. They are also asking anyone who has video to come forward.

Last week, police said they were warned a fight was going to happen but were unable to stop the brawl. Police said when they went to Cardinal Carter, they did not see any evidence of a fight.
The day after the video surfaced, York Catholic District School Board spokesperson Sonia Gallo said four students from that video were identified. They were asked to stay home but were not suspended.
Gallo said that the parent involved in the fight is the father of a Cardinal Carter student, and his son is one of the four who have been asked to stay home.
