Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer and respiratory arrest, according to recently released medical records.
The Apple co-founder died on Oct. 5. He was 56.
A copy of his death certificate was made public Monday. It shows Jobs died of respiratory arrest resulting from pancreatic cancer that had spread to other organs.
Jobs had battled cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant in 2009 after taking a leave of absence for unspecified health problems. He took another leave of absence in January – his third since his health problems began – before resigning as CEO in August.
New CEO Tim Cook said in an email to employees that the company’s staff will hold a memorial service to celebrate Jobs’ life on Oct. 19 at Apple’s Cupertino, Calif. Campus.
An Apple spokesman said that the company will not be holding any public services.
