Man hit by SUV in Vaughan

A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening head injuries Tuesday morning after he was struck by an SUV on Keele Street in Vaughan.

The crash, involving a Mazda Tribute, happened around 6:40 a.m. on Keele just north of Highway 7, police said.

“The vehicle was travelling northbound in the fast lane and the pedestrian was crossing Keele Street from the east side to the west side. It was dark at the time,” Det. Const. Mike Buchanan told CityNews.

The 63-year-old victim had been dropped off on the east side and was crossing the street to go to work.

After the crash, he was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where he remains in serious condition.

Keele was closed between Highway 7 and Langstaff Road for the investigation. The area reopened just after noon.

Police aren’t considering charges at this point, Buchanan said.
