Heat warnings are in effect for parts of Toronto and the GTA on Sunday.
Environment Canada says the warnings also affect a region that stretches from Windsor up to southern Huron County and over to Durham region, east of Toronto.
The weather agency says people in the area can expect temperatures in the low 30s with a humidex of 40.
The City of Toronto has also issued a heat warning until further notice. It is advising residents to drink lots of cool water even before you feel thirsty, take shelter in air-conditioned places such as shopping malls and community centres and avoid leaving children or pets unattended in cars.
Along with the muggy temperatures, Environment Canada has also issued an air quality statement for most southern Ontario, warning of high levels of air pollution today.
The agency says temperatures will only drop to the low 20s overnight, offering little relief from the heat.
Environment Canada says a cold front will cross southern Ontario Monday night, which is expected to end the “heat event.”
