Atonement Leads Golden Globe Nods, Canadian Ellen Page Nominated For Juno

The British romantic drama Atonement received a leading seven Golden Globe nominations Thursday while Haligonian Ellen Page snagged a best actress nomination for her role in the acclaimed comedy Juno.

Atonement stars Keira Knightley and James McAvoy were nominated for their roles, and the film is up for best drama.

Other nominees include Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman for their supporting roles in Charlie Wilson’s War, and Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson for their supporting turns in Michael Clayton.

Juno star Page was quoted on a morning talk show as saying she was pleased to hear of the nominations for the teenage pregnancy comedy, which also include one for screenwriter Diablo Cody.

“It’s so nice that people are responding well to our movie,” said Page. “I’m just so grateful to be a part of this film.”

The Golden Globes honour the best in film and television, and traditionally kick off Hollywood awards season. They’ll be handed out on January 13.
