Former Beauty Queen Faces Charges Of Kidnapping And Torturing Her Ex-Boyfriend

A bizarre story unfolding in Arizona has all the makings of a sordid movie. But prosecutors contend it happened in real life. It centres on a former beauty queen-turned-law student with the unlikely name of Kumari Fullbright (left). And if what authorities allege she was involved in is true, it turns the idea of that beauty into one of sordid ugliness.

Cops in Tucson have arrested the 25-year-old and charged her with kidnapping, armed and aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault. How did she wind up in this predicament? Police say it all started with a former lover.

The ex-Miss Arizona contestant is accused of having three other men abduct her old boyfriend, hold him in a room and torture the 24-year-old for more than a day. It’s alleged Fullbright believed her former lover stole some jewelry given to her by another ex-beau, who also happens to be one of her co-accused.

They say she invited her ex over to her apartment, then ducked out to take a shower. But he wasn’t alone for long. Three men are accused of showing up, binding him with plastic ties and duct tape, pointing guns at him and threatening to harm him if he didn’t return the allegedly stolen baubles.

Cops say Fullbright then emerged from her shower, bit him on the arm, hand and ear, held a butcher knife to his head and repeated the threat.

The drama then supposedly moved to another home, where the beatings continued, before finally returning to Fullbright’s residence where she’s accused of holding him at gunpoint. At some point, police say the victim managed to work a hand free and grab the weapon. It went off, but didn’t hit anyone.

The fight spilled outside and the boyfriend broke free, running to a neighbour screaming for help. They called police, ending the long siege.

Detectives are trying to sort out the outlandish tale, but believe the victim may have evidence for his claims. “He has some bite marks on him, evident and consistent with his account, and his hands were red and swollen, consistent with someone who had been tied up,” explains Sgt. Fabian Pacheco.

The complaint also claims the suspects stole his wallet containing up to $600, along with his cell phone and briefcase.

Two of the men said to be involved in this incredible drama – the 44-year-old other ex-boyfriend and his 46-year-old brother, are thought to have fled the country and cops have warrants out for them. A third man remains in jail.

Fullbright has been set free on $50,000 bond and is refusing to comment on the case, which has also left her budding law career up in the air.
