Standing on the corner with your hand in the air is so 2011.
A new app lets Torontonians hail a cab from their smartphone in just a few touch-screen taps.
“We’re very excited to be the first taxi company in the city to offer an app which will ultimately make our customers’ lives easier,” Kristine Hubbard, general manager of Beck Taxi, said in a statement.
The Beck app uses GPS technology to send a driver to the passenger’s exact location. That address and others can be saved for future use and users can order cabs up to 30 days in advance.
Customers can also receive status updates on their order.
The free app is available for iPhone and can be downloaded on iTunes here. BlackBerry and Android users can use Beck’s mobile site, becktaxi.com, which doesn’t have the GPS option but does allow riders to order a cab.
