At least 1 seriously injured in 2-alarm fire in Cabbagetown

By News Staff

At least one person has been seriously injured as fire crews battled a two-alarm blaze in Cabbagetown.

Emergency services were called to 55 Bleecker Street, near Carlton Street just before 4:30 p.m.

Black smoke could be seen billowing from the fourth floor of the 14-storey building.

Paramedics say one victim has been taken to hospital in critical condition.

The fire has been put out and they are now ventilating the building.

District Fire Chief Stephan Powell says he expects crews to remain on the scene for a while to do an intense inspection in order to ensure the fire didn’t cause any other safety issues.
