Bautista a no-brainer for American League player of the month

Jose Bautista has been named the American League player of the month for June, marking the fifth time the Jays slugger has earned the honour.

The selection was likely a no-brainer, as Bautista blasted an impressive 14 home runs in June.

He also had a major-league leading 30 RBIs in 27 games, assuring his fifth player of the month award in three seasons with the Jays.

On Monday, Bautista also confirmed that he will take part in the home run derby in Kansas City, Mo., on July 9.

Last year Bautista struggled in the contest, cracking only four home runs while the New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano won with 20.
