Man shot to death in Etobicoke

Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot to death on a quiet residential street in Etobicoke before dawn on Thursday.

Officers were called to Meadowbank Road, near Highway 427 and Burnhamthorpe Road, around 4 a.m. where they found the victim, said to be in his 20s, on the road suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There were four quick shots, it sounded like, and then one or two following shots,” neighbour Don Suszko said. He was watching television when the shooting happened.

Investigators continue to search for a suspect. No description of the killer has been released. A dark-coloured vehicle was spotted leaving the scene going southbound on Meadowbank after the gunfire.

“I don’t have any idea who he is as yet, so that’s my number one task,” Det.-Sgt. Pauline Gray of the homicide squad said.

The news of yet another shooting had neighbours rattled.

“I think the police should be stepping things up all over the city,” local resident Bill Perivolaris said. “These are not isolated incidents — they’re everywhere from Scarborough to Etobicoke.”

“As I’m going to work this morning, I’m seeing a body over there. It makes you wonder … who’s actually running this city? Who’s actually taking care of all of this? The Eaton Centre incident, that Little Italy incident and now it’s coming over here. It really disturbs me,” another neighbour said.

An autopsy will be done, police said.
