Notorious Convict Martin Ferrier Decides Against Visit To Brampton

A storm of negative media attention has apparently caused a feared convicted criminal to cancel a planned visit to Brampton on Tuesday.

It was widely reported on Monday that thirty-five-year-old Martin Ferrier would be heading to Brampton to visit family members.  Ferrier, who spent 15 years behind bars and was convicted of over 60 crimes, was released from custody two years ago and hasn’t been in trouble since, but the mere mention of his name spread ripples of fear in the community.

The 35-year-old, who was once labelled an “incurable psychopath” by mental health experts, has been living in Montreal for the past two years and working in security.

“I’m not looking for confrontation but why should I have to avoid (the Brampton area)?” he asked recently.

Despite the public outrage that was sparked by word of his proposed, and now cancelled return, Ferrier does have some supporters.

“He is not a dangerous offender. He is not a threat to the community,” said John Kastner, who made a documentary about Ferrier called ‘Monster in the Family’ and its sequel ‘The Struggle Continues’.

“Martin Ferrier is not a sexual predator. That means he doesn’t jump out from behind the bushes at women or children. … He was involved in an incident 15 years ago when he was a young guy of 20, a domestic incident with a woman that he was involved with. It was a single sexual charge – he’s not a rapist. He’s not a serial rapist. He’s not a serial sexual offender. All of these are falsehoods and I wish that politicians would do their research before they come out and make false statements.”
