Drowning Man Reeled In By Fisherman

A fisherman who thought he heard the cries of a distressed bird ended up a hero Thursday.

Bob Greene, who lives in Hallowell, Maine, was having his morning coffee when he heard the yelps from a nearby river.

He finally realized there was a man bobbing in the Kennebec, and Greene immediately called 911. A dispatcher told him to throw something to the man.

He grabbed the first thing at hand – a fishing rod.

Then Greene headed out the water, and cast the line as far he could. He managed to snag the man’s shirt, and reeled him to shore.

The catch of the day is recovering at a Portland hospital.
