Committing the perfect crime requires skill and cunning.
These are two traits that one man in Iowa City apparently doesn’t possess, since he gave himself away at the first opportunity while allegedly committing credit card fraud.
He made two purchases and paid using a credit card that had been reported stolen.
When asked to sign the receipt as proof of his purchase, he inked his own John Henry for the cashier.
It wasn’t particularly difficult for the police to track him down.
But before he was caught, the man tried to make a third purchase. The teller at this store asked to see identification, and the alleged clumsy thief produced some – his own.
A twenty-one year old Iowa resident has been charged. He maintains that he didn’t steal the card – he found it in his living room after a party – but he does own up to using it.
Considering his actions, it’d be difficult to deny.
The allegedly clumsy thief faces four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.
One would hope that his illegal purchases were worth all his trouble, but what did he buy with his newfound financial freedom? A latte and some cigarettes.
