Citytv Steps Up To Honour Film Fest Favourites

Toronto’s glitziest event of the year is drawing to a close, and Citytv took the opportunity to honour some of the brightest stars of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Each year, awards are given out for the best Canadian feature, and the best Canadian first feature, as well as the people’s choice.

For those involved in the film’s creation, it can be a boost both for their morale and their careers.

“It’s nice when the press and the journalists tell you that they love the film, but when people tell you that they love the film, that’s the real feeling,” said Freida Pinto of Slumdog Millionaire, this year’s recipient of the People’s Choice.

“I think it will help us to carry on and make some other movie afterwards,” said Francoise Landry of the monetary prize that comes with winning. His film Lost Song won Best Canadian Feature.

The Best Canadian First Feature award was taken by Before Tomorrow.

The awards are part of Citytv’s long-standing support of the festival.

“We’re talking about Citytv and how important it is for City as a Canadian broadcaster to support emerging filmmakers,” explained Melanie, Farrell, Dir. Community Liaison for Rogers.
