The Foods That Will Boost Your Immune System

You are what you eat – but what should you be eating?

According to some health experts, there are six foods that are not only good for you, but can actually help boost your immune system. And most of them have the added benefit of tasting pretty good, too.

What are these magic morsels?

Here’s the list of the top 6:

1) Black beans

They may not be high on everyone’s shopping list, but when it comes to keeping you healthy, they can’t be beat. “It’s high fibre, high antioxidant, really nice for your immune system function,” reveals chiropractor Dr. Joey Shulman.

2) Blueberries

“Blueberries are probably the number one antioxidant food,” Shulman enthuses. “Wild blueberries show higher antioxidants than just regular store bought.”

3) Garlic

“It’s been used for centuries as an antiviral, antimicrobial, antibacterial, the immune potential is off the charts,” the doctor relates. And anything that can keep vampires away can’t be all bad.

4) Tomatoes

It’s a no-brainer for most of us who love ketchup.

5) Yogurt

“Yogurt has this wonderful probiotic benefit that can help your gut,” Shulman points out.

6) Gala Apples

This one may surprise you. We all know how that old apple a day is good for avoiding the doctor, but according to our expert, some are even better than others.

“The more colourful they are the better,” Shulman concludes. “And it’s nature’s way of saying, ‘here eat this!'”

For most of us, nature doesn’t have to ask twice.

So if all these items can help reduce your chances of getting sick, what’s the one thing you should keep away from to avoid the opposite effect?

Shulman’s response is short – and sweet. It’s white sugar, which she believes helps to depress your system and leave you vulnerable to the kinds of diseases the other foods can let you ward off.
