Memorial remembers man murdered in hit-and-run

TORONTO, On. – Friends and family of a man who was run down in the entertainment district last Saturday, gathered for his memorial.

The York University flag was lowered to half-mast Friday afternoon and will remain lowered until 1 p.m. Saturday in honour of the third-year Administrative Studies student.

The funeral service was at St. Cecilia’s Church, 161 Annette St., in downtown Toronto.

Vincent Dang, 20, died after being run down by an SUV in what police said was a ‘deliberate act’ that followed an argument inside a club.

Dang’s father remembered his son’s last words while speaking to CityTV.

“He told me, ‘Daddy, daddy, I’m okay. Be strong. Keep moving on … and now I live in peace.’ That’s helped me a lot,” he said.

Officers allege the suspect, Naveen Ariaratnam, left the club in a dark-grey, full-size SUV. He proceeded east along Wellington before making a U-turn and then driving into Dang.

Ariaratnam is wanted for second-degree murder

He has lived in St. Catharines and Toronto. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Dan Nielson at (416) 808-7398 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
