THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A severe thunderstorm that hit Thunder Bay, Ont., Wednesday night blew a portion of the roof off the airport and shut down the terminal.
The debris landed on at least 18 cars in the parking lot, crushing several vehicles, and took out a lamppost.
Lorne Clifford of Thunder Bay police says no one was injured.
He said the airport will be closed for a while but it’s not know for how long.
Kaleigh Heerema, a WestJet employee, says she was just outside the terminal doors when she saw pieces of insulation flying through the air.
Two pieces of sheet metal about 10 metres long then flew off the roof and onto the cars.
