World-famous British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, 40, has been found dead in his London home, Thursday, his spokesman said.
McQueen’s death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week and a month before he was to unveil his collection at Paris Fashion Week.
The Daily Mail reported he committed suicide; however, McQueen’s company communications director has not revealed the circumstances surrounding his death.
The editor of Flare magazine, Lisa Tant, said she found out about McQueen’s death on Twitter. She told 680News what she’ll remember most about the fashion icon, and how his death will impact the fashion world.
“To get an invitation from him, you know, I used to sit in Paris and just hope and pray there would be that Alexander McQueen invitation sitting in my stack of mail, and when I got it, my heart would soar because I knew I was going to see something that would be completely unexpected and that I would leave feeling so inspired, and we really will miss that energy,” Tant said.
“Well, he really is, with John Gagliano, one of those beaming lights from the United Kingdom, incredibly influential to younger designers and a real showman, a real artist, very theatrical, and when you lose such a bright light like that, everything just goes down a notch. So it really will have far-reaching impact.”
McQueen’s death comes just days after the death of his mother.
