US officials identify name of suspect in possible 9-11 anniversary terror threat

American officials say they believe they’ve identified the name of at least one of the three suspects believed to be part of a possible al-Qaida plot to strike New York or Washington over the 9-11 anniversary.

The threat was first identified on Wednesday in Pakistan, where officials say the CIA first came across the information on the potential plot.

Three men, including at least one American citizen, had travelled to the United States in late August or early September from Pakistan through Dubai.

Officials believe their assignment may have been to use a car bomb to attack either New York or Washington on Sept. 10, 11 or 12.

President Barack Obama plans to travel to New York on Sunday to take part in the memorial services commemorating the attacks.

Obama will also stop at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
