Teen charged in Const. Styles death devastated by what happened

The lawyer for the teen charged with first-degree murder in the dragging death of Constable Garrett Styles says his client is devastated by what happened.

David Berg appeared in a Newmarket court, Thursday morning on behalf of the 15-year-old accused. He told the court his client is depressed about the officer’s death.

Styles, a York Region Police Constable and father of two young children, was killed in June when a minivan he pulled over near Newmarket suddenly accelerated, dragging him.

The minivan then hit a guardrail and flipped over, pinning Constable Styles underneath.

The teen accused is still paralysed. He may be released into a rehabilitation centre in November and is scheduled to make another court appearance on October 28.
