Canadians like it sweet.
Statistics Canada said on average, we consume 110 grams of sugar, which works out to 26 teaspoons each and every day.
Most of it is in the form of liquid sugar.
The StatsCan report indicates that one in every five calories consumed by Canadians comes from sugar — whether it’s naturally occurring in things like milk or fruit, or added to foods and beverages like soft drinks and candy.
Sugar consumption is lowest among women 71 years of age and over.
The highest is among teenage boys aged 14 to 18, at 41 teaspoons a day.
