Canucks and Blackhawks to renew rivalry

CHICAGO, IL (NEWS1130) – The last time the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks faced each other Alex Burrows beat Corey Crawford with a seeing-eye shot in overtime of Game 7 in the Western Conference Quarterfinal.

The two rivals will face off this afternoon for the first time since that game and both clubs have something to prove.

Vancouver is coming off back-to-back losses to the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues and are currently outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference.

Chicago is off to an impressive 8-2-3 record after struggling in the early stages of last year. The Blackhawks will look to use this game to make a statement that they’re back among the elite teams in the NHL.

When the Blackhawks signed Dan Carcillo in the off-season he made a big first impression. During a press conference which was introducing him to the media, Carcillo made remarks about both former and current Canucks. Carcillo named Maxim Lapierre, Tanner Glass and Raffi Torres as players on his hit list.

Alex Burrows wasn’t able to finish Friday’s game in St. Louis and is still dealing with back spasms. He’s unlikely to play after missing the morning skate.

Duncan Keith will be out of the Hawks lineup. He was ruled out this morning as he continues to deal with a hand injury.

Roberto Luongo is expected to receive his second straight start in goal after allowing three goals in the loss to the Blues. Luongo has historically had problems at the United Center especially during the past three post-seasons. He’ll be facing Crawford in the Chicago crease.

Puck drop is at 4 p.m. and the game can be seen on Sportsnet Vancouver Hockey.
