TORONTO, Ont. – The Special Investigations Unit, Ontario’s police watchdog, is investigating a crash between a car and police cruiser.
The incident happened as a police cruiser was en route to the scene of the fatal Little Italy shooting.
Michael Andrade, 22, of Ajax, suffered serious injuries when the car he was driving collided with an officer’s vehicle.
Police say Andrade was taken to hospital where he was treated for a concussion, while the officer suffered minor injuries.
The collision happened at the intersection of Dovercourt Road and Heydon Park Road.
The Little Italy shooting saw a 35-year-old man shot to death on a busy patio where soccer fans had gathered to watch a European Championship game.
The victim has been identified as Johnnie Raposo, and police now say it was a targeted shooting. Ties to organized crime are also being investigated.
Police are currently seeking a suspect who was dressed as a construction worker and seen wearing a white hard hat, a safety vest and a dust mask.
Anyone with information on either incident should contact police, Crime Stoppers or the SIU.
