First day of spring arrives after a mild winter

The new season checked in at 1:32 p.m., Saturday.

Yesterday was the third consecutive day of 18 plus temperatures in the city of Toronto and records were broken in a number of communities including London, Hamilton, Peterborough, Parry Sound and Niagara Falls.

680News meteorologist Jill Taylor tells us it was one of the warmest and driest winters since 1948.

“The average snowfall from the December to March period is about 119 cm at Pearson Airport. We received less than half the amount of snow than average and it was about two degrees warmer than normal this winter.”

People are gearing for their favourite springtime activities. A Canadian Tire survey found 30 percent like to fire up the barbecue, 22 percent will head into the garden and 11 percent launch into spring cleaning. Only seven percent said golf was their top priority.
