TORONTO, Ont. – Activists who want to see the Ontario government proceed with proposed changes to the sex education curriculum will gather outside Ryerson University today.
Among the groups expected to be there are Planned Parenthood of Toronto, The Ontario Coalition of Abortion Clinics, The Native Youth Sexual Health Network and Oxfam Canada.
The protest is meant to encourage the Ontario government to support and implement the changes to Ontario’s sex education curriculum; full funding for family planning and safe abortion in Canada’s G8 Maternal/Child Health Initiative; action on all women’s health inequalities and injustices faced globally.
The groups have said they were moved to action by the recent decision restricting access to relevant sexual health education for Ontario students.
Premier Dalton McGuinty sent the new curriculum for a “rethink” in April after it got negative feedback.
The Rally for Reproductive Justice will be held outside Pitman Hall on Mutual Street. It begins at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
