KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – Darnell Pratt is back in custody. The man who killed Grant De Patie in a ‘gas-and-dash’ incident in Maple Ridge five years ago, didn’t to return to his Kamloops halfway-house Friday night.
Pratt was captured in downtown Kamloops Saturday, after he was released just one day before. Patrick Storey with the National Parole Board says Pratt will be in custody for the next 30-to-90 days under a suspension warrant and will be meeting with his parole officer discussing why he took off.
Storey says the parole officer can cancel his suspension or he could be referred to a hearing with the National Parole Board. “If they choose that option, Mr Pratt will meet with two members of the National Parole Board and they will discuss what happened with them. The board’s concern would be his risk to re-offend, they will then form an opinion on what risk he poses to the community…and their decision will be based on that.”
Storey says his release conditions were severe. “In this case the board imposed a residency condition…which is the most restrictive condition the board can impose on anybody.”
