We gain an extra hour of sleep this weekend, but we also lose some daylight.
The clocks fall back an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday. The return to Standard Time will mean brighter mornings but it will get dark before 5 p.m.
Police are reminding all road users to be extra cautious as we adjust to the time change.
Toronto police said historically, there’s been a 30 per cent increase in pedestrian-involved collisions in the weeks surrounding the time change.
So far this year, 49 people have died on the city’s roads — 12 of them being pedestrians.
Police issued the following safety tips for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and anyone using the roadways:
- Give yourself extra time to get to your destination
- Drive within the speed limit and adjust according to the conditions
- Expect the unexpected and use extra caution when going through intersections
- Make sure your vehicle is in good working order and use your full lighting system
- Remain vigilant of your surroundings and be aware of other road users
