Commuting trouble: Signal issue forces GO train cancellations on Lakeshore line

An ongoing signal issue that led to major delays and cancellations of trains on the Lakeshore GO line is being repaired but should still affect plenty of commuters.
“The crew working on the signal issue west of Pickering GO have made significant progress. Trains are now able to move through the area at normal speed,” the GO Transit Lakeshore East Train wrote on Twitter.
“However, due to the earlier congestion, significant delays are still expected with possible cancellations.”

The problem has been traced back to the west of Pickering GO station but it’s having a ripple effect. The 5:30 p.m. train out of Toronto’s Union Station to Oakville has been cancelled, and the 6:32 p.m. train leaving Oakville for Union Station has also been nullified.
A spokesman at Metrolinx tells CityNews that delays of 60 to 90 minutes are likely and he recommends finding another way home.
“Lakeshore East GO train customers: As a result of the ongoing signal issue west of Pickering GO, trains from Union Station has been modified to run hourly. Westbound trains from Oshawa GO are anticipated to be delayed up to 60 minutes,” they said.
