Police arrest impaired driver, seize shotgun during Pickering traffic stop

A man is facing impaired driving and weapons charges after he was found asleep in his car with a shotgun during a traffic stop in Pickering on Sunday.

Durham police officers conducted a traffic stop at 5 a.m. in the area of Finch Avenue and Whites Road.

Police allege the driver of a blue Mazda was found asleep behind the wheel. Officer seized a shotgun and ammunition from the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody.

Justin Crawford, a 22-year-old from Pickering, is facing multiple charges including operating a vehicle while impaired, possession of a non-restricted firearm without a license, and having control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Crawford was held by police for a bail hearing.
