Toronto police arrested and charged six people, including a man from British Columbia, in a lengthy investigation that started when a woman was carjacked, robbed and thrown from her vehicle.

Officers were first called to the Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road area in north Toronto on Sunday, Jan. 15, for reports of a break-and-enter call.

It’s alleged that a woman arranged to meet up with a man she knew and entered his vehicle. Once inside the car, two disguised men pointed a gun at the woman and held her at gunpoint. Three men then stole the woman’s phone and her keys.

The men drove the woman to her residence and then robbed her. Police said the woman was pushed out of the vehicle after the break-and-enter was committed, and the men fled the area.

Toronto police officers were able to identify the vehicle used in the robbery and tracked the men down. On Jan. 17, investigators located the suspect vehicle in the Adelaide Street West and Peter Street area, arresting three men.

They were identified as 26-year-old Oumer Bekri of Mississauga, 30-year-old Daniel Ofori of Burnaby, B.C., and 32-year-old Jugraj Randhawa of Toronto. The three men face several charges, including robbery with a firearm and kidnapping.

Through the investigation, police executed four search warrants, seizing various loaded handguns, around $150,000, and a large number of drugs weighing just over 8 kilograms of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and crystal meth. A police spokesperson says the street value of the drugs is over $1.3 million.

Three more people were arrested and charged. They were identified as 22-year-old Naima Kanamugire of Mississauga, 26-year-old Abririzaq Unle of Toronto and 26-year-old Ali Jaballah of Ajax, Ont. They face a combined 45 offences, including firearm charges and drug possession.

All six of the accused appeared in court on Jan. 23.
