SIU investigating police chase, crash in Pickering that left man with serious injuries

The province’s police watchdog is investigating following a crash in Pickering that left a man with serious injuries.

The collision occurred around 3 a.m. Monday in the area of Bayly Street and Brock Road.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says a Durham Regional Police Service officer was attempting to stop a Mercedes-Benz on Bayly Street when the vehicle fled. After a short pursuit, the Mercedes collided with another vehicle at Bayly and Brock.

A 36-year-old male passenger of the Mercedes was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Durham police said they were searching for another male who fled the scene.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury, or sexual assault.
