Police in the GTA have laid another dozen charges against the Mississauga man accused of selling deadly substances to people at risk of self-harm.
In an update Tuesday morning, Peel Regional Police said the 12 additional charges against Kenneth Law relate to victims in seven different regions in Ontario. The 57-year-old was previously charged with two counts of counselling and aiding suicide in Peel.
“We will not tolerate criminal actions by those who prey on vulnerable individuals in our communities and we will hold those responsible accountable,” said York Regional Police Insp. Simon James who is heading up the multi-jurisdictional task force consisting of 11 police forces across the province.
The latest charges relate to four deaths in Toronto, three in York Region, one in Durham Region, one in London, one in Thunder Bay, one in Waterloo, and an additional death in Peel Region.
Police will not be releasing the identity of any of the victims in the case but say they range in age from 16 to 36.
The investigation into Law began earlier this year as a result of a sudden death where the victim was believed to have consumed sodium nitrite. Peel police say their investigation has revealed at least 1,200 packages were sent to people in 40 countries from Canadian-based websites believed to be owned by the suspect.
Investigators are advising residents to contact police if they or anyone they know have received deliveries from the following companies:
- Imtime Cuisine
- AmbuCA
- Academic/ACademic
- Escape Mode/escMode
- ICemac
“We ask that the public be cautious and vigilant of online activities,” said James. “If you or anyone you know has spoken to Kenneth Law about self-harm, or noticed payment and transactions related to any of these companies please contact us.”
Anyone with further information is being asked to contact investigators at 1-888-714-0003 or 11Divproject@peelpolice.ca. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers.
U.K. police investigating 88 deaths believed to be connected to Law
Tuesday’s update comes after British investigators revealed last week they are investigating the deaths of 88 people who were allegedly shipped packages of sodium nitrite from the alleged sites.
Investigators in the U.K. say they have identified 232 people who bought products over a two year period until April. The British probe is part of inquiries triggered by the arrest earlier this year of Law.
“We are aware of police investigations going on in other jurisdictions outside Ontario,” said James. “We are cooperating and sharing information with law enforcement on a global scale.”
There are also ongoing investigations in the United States, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
