9 charged, other man wanted in kidnapping of woman from Mississauga nightclub

Peel Regional Police have charged nine people, and another man is wanted, following an alleged kidnapping that saw a woman abducted from a Mississauga nightclub.

Authorities said at around 8:45 p.m. on August 24, a Toronto woman was attending a nightclub in the area of Britannia Road East and Dixie Road when she was kidnapped and forced into a stolen vehicle and held for 48 hours.

The female victim was taken to several locations in Owen Sound, Ont. before being released in the Toronto area. She was not physically injured, police noted.

Investigators arrested multiple people in connection to the alleged kidnapping.

8 charged include the following:

Mohammed Habibnia, a 28-year-old man from Newmarket, is charged with kidnapping and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Daniel Gonthcharov, a 22-year-old man from Concord, Ont., is charged with kidnapping, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Mohamad Halimi, a 22-year-old man from Mississauga, is charged with kidnapping, two counts of possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Aaron Marshall, a 35-year-old man with no fixed address, is charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement. At the time, Marshall was a federal parolee who was wanted for being unlawfully at large.

Jessica Proctor, a 31-year-old woman from Meaford, Ont., is charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement.

Mohamed Khairy, a 20-year-old man from Mississauga, is charged with kidnapping.

Tayshawn Atkins, a 19-year-old man from Oakville, is charged with kidnapping.

Darren McCann, a 46-year-old man from Owen Sound, Ont., is charged with kidnapping.

Authorities added that search warrants were executed at multiple residences and vehicles in Owen Sound, Ont., and throughout the GTA. Police discovered nearly $240,000 worth of drugs and two extended handgun magazines with ammunition.

All of the accused were held on bail and made a court appearance.

Police added that 26-year-old Mohammed Salih of Mississauga is charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

A Canada-wide warrant is active for 22-year-old Karim Khairy of Mississauga for kidnapping in connection with the investigation. His photo has been released.
