Male allegedly attacked with bear spray in suspected hate-motivated incident in Oshawa

Police are searching for a suspect after a male was allegedly sprayed with bear spray in a suspected hate-motivated incident in Oshawa.

Officers with Durham Regional Police Service were called to area of Gibb Street and Stevenson Road South just after 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, for a reported assault.

Police say a person was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot when an unknown male approached and knocked on his window.

When he lowered his window, the suspect allegedly sprayed him with bear spray while yelling racial slurs.

The suspect then fled the area. He is described as White, around 35-40 years-old, with a thin build, and wearing a black toque.

The male who was allegedly sprayed with the substance suffered minor injuries.
