The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is investigating after an employee was found deceased inside a grocery store’s walk-in freezer.
Calls to the CityNews Kitchener newsroom first came in Tuesday morning reporting a heavy police presence at the Zehrs located on Conestoga Boulevard near Dunbar Road in Cambridge.
In a statement to CityNews Kitchener the ministry expressed their condolences to the employee’s family.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker during this difficult time. An MLITSD inspector has been assigned to investigate. As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide further details at this time.”
According to regional police, the death does not appear to be suspicious but the investigation is ongoing.
The store remains closed Tuesday however, an official with Zehrs has told CityNews Kitchener it’s expected to reopen on Wednesday.
