A man and two women have been arrested after a fatal stabbing at an apartment complex in Scarborough on Thursday morning.
The Toronto Police Service (TPS) said officers were called to a highrise on Lawrence Avenue East near Kingston Road just after 6 a.m.
Duty Insp. Todd Jocko told reporters that a man was located with stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
“We believe that all parties are known to one another,” said Jocko.
Police would not confirm where the stabbing took place but investigators were seen in and around the 10th floor.
“The building getting worse and worse every day,” Sem Per tells CityNews. He’s lived in the Toronto Community Housing complex for 18 years and says the government needs to put in new rules and regulations.
Last year, one person was killed in a fire and in 2018 a man was gunned down in the building’s stairwell.
Another resident, who only gave his name as Balliston, has lived in the building for more than two decades and echoes the call for action.
“There’s no security in the building, anybody can just walk in. There’s no protection here for none of us,” he said.
In a statement to CityNews, Toronto Community Housing says it has significant security coverage at this building adding that they share the community’s concerns about safety.
“This is one of our highest needs buildings. That’s why we’ve joined forces with the City, the Toronto Police Service and a wide range of community partners to address the challenges this community is dealing with, including mental health and addiction as well as homelessness.”
