Driver seriously hurt after vehicle hits tree, catches fire in Scarborough

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire in Toronto’s east end.

Emergency crews were called to Ellesmere Road and Markham Road just after 2 p.m. on Monday.

According to the Toronto Police Service, the male driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, managed to get out of the vehicle.

It’s not yet known what led to the crash.

Ellesmere is closed between Markham Road and Scarborough Golf Club Road.
