Man charged in Yorkville nightclub shooting

A Toronto man has been charged in connection with a shooting inside a Yorkville club early Sunday morning.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in Empire nightclub on Cumberland Street, near Bay.

A witness said he heard at least four shots fired, and everyone scattered or hit the floor for cover.

Officers said they found some people at the scene with gunshot wounds, while others found their own way to hospital.

Five people, including a 19-year-old woman hit in the leg, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested and charged Jermaine Morgan, 26, who they say was in the area and armed with a gun.

He is accused of five counts of aggravated assault, possessing an unregistered gun and several other weapons offences.

He’s due in a College Park court on Monday morning.
