A dangerous thief is being sought in two separate TTC armed robberies that occurred in August, Toronto police say.
On Aug. 6, a TTC collector at the Chester subway station was robbed at gunpoint by a heavily disguised man holding a semi-automatic handgun in his left hand and a white garden glove with a grey palm in the other, Staff Insp. Mike Earl said at a news conference on Wednesday.
An undisclosed amount of cash and metro passes were stolen, but the handgun wasn’t fired and the TTC employee was unharmed, he said.
The same suspect held up another TTC collector at the Christie subway station just before midnight on Aug. 26, he said. He was wearing a similar outfit, wielding a similar weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and metro passes.
Police released security images of the man on Wednesday, and asked for the public’s assistance to help identify him.
“We want to make sure we get him off the streets before this escalates or goes any further or we have any other robberies like this,” Earl said.
The suspect is described as white, 25-30 years old, five-foot-10 to six-feet tall.
Earl said it’s rare that TTC collector booths are robbed, adding that five of them were held up this year.
The suspect isn’t believed to be the same suspect who shot a TTC collector after he refused to hand over money at the Dupont subway station on Feb. 26, 2012.
