Crew battles huge fire at mechanic shop on Wilson Ave.

Thick smoke billowing from a fire that broke out at a mechanic shop caused quite the visual distraction for drivers on Highway 401 on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the scene just before 2:30 p.m. to find the building on Wilson Avenue, east of Weston Road fully engulfed.

At the height of the blaze, nine trucks and 35 firefighters were on scene.

Fire captain Adrian Ratushniak told 680News that the crew had to fight the fire from outside, as they weren’t allowed inside.

“In any mechanic shop, we look at what is volitile and what kind of things that are inside that may cause harm to firefighters or the public,” he said.

There’s been no word of any injuries.
