MMVAs Ready To Rock T.O.

‘Twas the night before the 2006 Much Music Video Awards, and everywhere in Toronto’s “Club District,” creatures were stirring.

Things were hardly silent Saturday night, as many of the bands that will take the stage at the MMVAs Sunday night were doing their sound checks in front of hundreds of screaming fans. And all that with close to 20 hours before the actual festivities.

What’s more, the staging of a free concert at Richmond and Yonge that featured Canadian acts like The Stills, The Trews and Alexisonfire, furthered the raucous atmosphere.

Thousands flocked to the Block Storm event, and not just those from Toronto.

“I came down to see Alexisonfire,” admitted one fan.

“I heard it was free…I wish shows in Brampton were this good.”

Still, as good as Saturday night was, most will openly admit that Sunday’s MMVAs are when things will really start to cook.

“It’s going to be insane,” warns MuchMusic VJ Search winner Tim Deegan, who’s also co-hosting the event.

“We’ve got Tori Spelling, Paris Hilton, Elisha Cuthbert…a lot of big names.”

Those big names will start arriving at Queen and John Sts. starting at 7:30 Sunday evening and the show will go live at 9pm.

The big show will be viewed in 65 countries around the world, including Afghanistan, where Canadian troops will get a chance to take in the action.

“There will be a live feed directly to them,” said Deegan.

“They’ll be able to know that Canada’s still here cheering for them, and we’re going to give them some music and some celebration.”

Yes, yes we will.
