And in the past few weeks, police have taken steps to stop it.
While you’ve been sleeping, dozens of undercover Toronto cops have been out on the streets posing as hookers and johns in an attempt to clean up what has become an out of control problem in the area.
And it appears they made a dent, confirming the arrest of 135 people during their street sweeping operation. Most of those nabbed were alleged johns. Authorities took 111 men into custody, accused of having attempted to solicit the services of one of the undercover police women. Their ages range from 18 all the way up to 75.
Another 24 women alleged to be hookers were taken off the streets as well.
Several of those accused are also facing drug charges.
And while it seems to be a local problem, it’s not.
Investigators reveal that almost every would-be ‘customer’ pinched in the process came from outside the area, with at least 30 percent traveling all the way from Mississauga and Brampton to try and find what they’re looking for under the cover of darkness.
Cops made sure they found something they weren’t expecting, instead.
