Cops Name U. Of T. “Peeping Tom” Suspect

Several women may have gotten a quick glimpse of his face in the shadows and now police have identified a man they accuse of peeping through windows in the west end for months.

After a string of incidents involving a prowler in the neighbourhoods around the downtown University of Toronto campus, authorities released the name and picture of a suspect Wednesday.

The disturbing crimes started in February in the Madison Avenue and Bloor Street area. Authorities allege 33-year-old Max Tutevin removed outdoor lights, parked his car under windows and climbed up on the hood to peep through, and climbed fire escapes.

“At times, the suspect would also park as close as one, two feet from the house, using the car as concealment, and, at this time, would he also look into the female residence windows,” Det. Const. Corey Crawford alleged.

Women in the Spadina and Dupont area began reporting similar incidents shortly after.

Police claim up to 13 women have spotted a man peeping into their homes at night between February and July of this year.

“He, like, put his hand in through the window, so this was at maybe two in the morning,” local resident and U. of T. student Carol Kim explained.

“When you go to sleep at night, you want to think, you know, you’re in your home and you want to be safe so it’s kind of scary,” another resident, Kristina Bandzoski, said.

Cops say they finally caught the break they needed when someone spotted the license plate of a car that was tracked back to the suspect and victims were able to I.D. him in a photo line-up.

Now that they think they know who he is, the next step is finding out where he is.

Tutiven is described as:

  • Possibly Hispanic,
  • Tanned complexion,
  • 5’9″,
  • 225 lbs.,
  • Heavy build,
  • Wavy, dark, shoulder-length hair.
  • He may have a goatee or a “string” beard.

Tutiven is facing a slew of charges including criminal harassment, prowl by night and possession of stolen property. If you where he is, call (416) 808-5300.
