Crash Leaves Man Dead In Caledon

It happened in Caledon just after 6am Wednesday. Police say a dump truck and a car collided, sending both vehicles spinning off the road.

“A dump truck travelling westbound  on King Street entered the intersection at Heart Lake Road and collided with a southbound vehicle,” reveals P.C. Scott Parker of the O.P.P. “As a result of that collision in the intersection, both vehicles wound up in the south ditch.”

The passenger in the car was ejected and a look at the carnage that followed was stunning. There is almost nothing left of the vehicle he was driving. He didn’t survive the impact.

When crews arrived on the scene just minutes after the accident, they discovered 21-year-old Michael D. Simmons of Pefferlaw without vital signs. A coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The dump truck driver was sent to Headwaters Hospital in Orangeville, and while authorities originally suspected his injuries were life threatening, he’s no longer considered to be in any danger.

It’s not yet clear what caused the mishap, which shut down the road in the area for almost the entire morning. It reopened just after 11am.

Teams remained on the scene trying to determine what happened. If you saw anything that can help them, call Caledon O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122.
