A four-run eighth inning propelled the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Thursday night.
Bengie Molina was the hero for the Blue Birds, blasting a tie-breaking, two-run homer into orbit and coming within a double of hitting for the cycle in one of his most impressive outings of the season.
The homer was his 12th of the season.
A.J. Burnett (5-5) was victorious in his third straight start. He gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings.
Tampa Bay’s Scott Kazmir had an equally impressive outing, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in five scoreless innings.
It was just his second start since missing almost three weeks with left shoulder inflammation.
Molina may have hit the key homer, but Gregg Zaun was likely the most ecstatic about his two-run blast — Zaun entered the game in a 4-for-49 slump.
